Mr Robert Guthrie
Tru Pools Pty Ltd
Rob has been a member of SPASA since 1995 and a Board Member since 2009. Rob’s career has always been focused on small business and as the owner of TruPool Turramurra and Roseville for over 20 years, he has vast hands on experience in the retail and service sectors of the pool industry. Rob holds a contractors licence and his industry experience extends to pool renovations.
To remain informed and connected with new innovations in the pool industry, Rob regularly attends pool industry trade shows in America, Europe and China.
This broad experience has reinforced his belief that integrity, accountability and renewal are core values to which the industry must continue to strive through a strong member association.
Mr Paul Simons
Lo-Chlor Chemicals Australia
Paul Simons has more than 18 years’ experience in the industry, and heads Lo-Chlor Chemicals, a leading manufacturer and wholesaler of specialty pool and spa chemicals in Australia.
Paul plays a vital role in this industry, and he’s committed to innovation – as proven by his diverse company which has offices in Australia, USA and the UK. He works closely with pool builders, retailers and technicians to provide solutions that meet different needs.
Mrs Janine Bellifemine
Janine comes from swimming pool heritage.
Well before becoming a Director, Janine had a long standing relationship with the Swimming Pool and Spa Association of NSW & ACT through Sunrise Pools.
Sunrise Pools has won a myriad of awards (approx. 200) including state, national and international awards. Sunrise Pools has overseen the construction and renovation of approx 4,000 pools.
Janine has been a Board member of SPASA for 7 consecutive years and has been responsible for the Social and Membership Portfolio during this time. She also served as SPASA Vice President for the 2013-2014 years and currently holds the position of SPASA Treasurer.
Mr Brad Baxter
Brad Baxter has been in the swimming pool industry for more than 25 years, and owns Sydney pool building company Award Pools Group. In that time, Award has constructed over 1500 concrete pools and won a raft of industry excellence awards.
Brad is certainly no newcomer to SPASA, having previously served as a Director and also as President between 2002 and 2004. He also understands about the importance of building relationships with associated industries and, as such, was also previously President of the Landscape Contractors Association between 1994 and 1996.
Mr Malcolm Brown
Malcolm Brown has over 21 years experience in the swimming pool industry. A qualified Fitter & Machinist, Malcolm has a background experience in manufacturing and servicing of fork trucks and earth moving equipment, medical & hospital equipment and weighing machinery.
Malcolm began his career in the swimming pool industry with Clearwater Australia in 1991. He was the Customer Service Representative supporting the Clearwater brand and the then NSW Distributor, Rolachem, with warranty back up and service. As State Manager Malcolm developed the Clearwater profile and expanded the business to a state-wide concern.
After leaving Clearwater, Malcolm worked for Carlile Solar Heating as the State Sales Manager. In 2002 he moved to Zodiac as an Account Manager. He has subsequently held the position of Customer Service Manager, Technical Product Manager and currently holds the position of Sales Development Manager.
During these 22 years Malcolm has been forging long standing professional & personal relationships within the Swimming Pool Industry and has gained experience in the vast majority of pool related products.
Mr Jonathan Hatfield
Jonathan is currently NSW State Manager of Waterco Ltd.
He has been involved in the swimming pool industry for the past five years. Prior to this, he managed an import and distribution business in the outdoor leisure industry for several years.
Originally from a plumbing trade background, he has also completed a Diploma in Marketing. Jonathan’s experience allows him to understand the seasonality of the swimming pool industry as well as the requirements of builders and retailers alike.
Mr Garth Jackson
Garth has been in the Swimming Pool Barrier Inspection Industry for the last three years and is the Managing Director of Triton Pool & Spa Inspections, a consultancy specialising in pool barrier compliance inspection and certification.
Prior to this, Garth held senior executive positions in a consultation practice across the Asia Pacific region within multinational organisations. His responsibilities ranged across the disciplines of Internal audit, risk management or compliance and has over 25 years experience. Since joining the industry, Garth has been a strong contributor to member meetings and to the NSW government reforms within the Swimming Pool Barrier Inspection sector.
>Garth is an NSW Accredited Certifier, a registered Pool Safety Inspector (Qld) and is a member of the Royal Life Saving (South Australia)’s Home Pool Inspection Committee. Garth is also is accredited by the Australian Glass & Glazing Association for the audit, selection and installation of glass under Australian Standard AS 1288.
Mr Peter Moore
Peter Moore is the founder of Aquatic Pool & Spa Consulting and has been in the swimming pool industry for over 40 years. He is a fully licenced Swimming Pool Builder. He has had a strong involvement with the industry over that time, initially as a director of SPASA Australia (NSW division) for 16 years and for the past 10 years, with SPASA NSW where he has held various positions including Director, Vice President and was President from 2009-2013.
To date Peter has overseen the Project Management and engineering of over 5000 pools, both new and renovated and has won a myriad of Australian and International awards over the last 4 decades.
He has had significant interaction in many state and federal government forums regarding legislation and policy which affected the swimming pool industry. During his time as SPASA President, Peter was often called upon to give radio and television interviews as well as authoring numerous editorials on behalf of the association.
Mr Merv Smith
Merv Smith has extensive experience in the swimming pool industry, spanning more than 22 years. Prior to joining Sunbather, he worked as a technical salesman for Benja Blaze (the NSW distributor for Sunbather). Before joining the pool industry, Merv owned and operated a roof plumbing and building related business.
He also had a stint working in Queensland for another of the Sunbather distributors, before returning to NSW to work for Prime Heating, which specialised in home heating, air-conditioning, heat pumps and gas pool heating. Approximately 7 years ago, Sunbather opened company-run branches in NSW and Queensland, where he took up a position as State Manager, NSW.
As a result of his experience, Merv has worked extensively with many sectors of the pool industry ie: pool builders, pool stores, contractors, architects, commercial centre’s and related trades.
Mr Mike Steven
Michael Steven is a Director of Landart Landscapes + and Pools and has been working in the landscape and pool industry for more than 20 years.
Michael started his career as an apprentice landscaper in 1992 and after 4 years he qualified as a tradesman. He has worked in Sydney for most of his career but has also gained experience overseas and during this time has become specialised in high end garden and pool construction. Michael spent many years managing and delivering garden renovations for various television programs that required a two day turn around. Michael understands the importance of a project schedule and the pressures required to deliver a project on time.
Since 2000 Landart Landscapes has been designing and building award winning landscapes and pools and hecurrently oversees the construction department within Landart Landscapes and + Pools. He is passionate about delivering quality in both the aesthetic and functionality of Landscapes and Pools.
Michael is driven by the desire to excel in delivering quality workmanship on all of his projects with clear and concise documentation and communication. Michael is passionate about the industry and its future and developing the skills and careers of those within his team at Landart Landscapes and Pools.
