SPASA NSW training courses get official ‘tick’
SPASA gained Registered Training Organisation (RTO) status on 24 July 2009, following comprehensive preparation to ensure compliance.
“Becoming an RTO is an enormous coup for SPASA NSW, and is a vital first step in gaining national recognition of the pool and spa industry, with our provision of training which is tailored to our industry’s specific requirements,” says SPASA NSW general manager, Spiros Dassakis.
“SPASA NSW has run training courses for more than 10 years, and achieving RTO status means we are now able to offer nationally-recognised competency certificates to trainees participating in our courses. It’s great news for retailers, pool shops, service technicians and, of course, pool builders across the domestic and commercial arena. Not only does it help enhance skills, it also provides peace of mind for consumers that they are dealing with well-trained professionals.”
SPASA’s current courses cover areas such as service and maintenance, safety, water treatment and chemistry, hydraulics and filtration, heating, lighting and cleaning.
“The current Technicians Course falls within our scope of registration, as will future SPASA-developed courses and suitable public courses,” says Spiros. “And we are currently well advanced in adding further courses to our scope of registration, including a Certificate III course in pool and spa construction.”
